The 4th Chinese Lounge Bridge International Academic Seminar (Qingyuan) Invites Submission of Papers Since “the Seminar on the Protection and Development of Timber-arched Lounge Bridge from Zhejiang and Fujian Provinces"
in Qingyuan, China, in 2004, the research on Chinese lounge bridges has drawn a lot of attention and support form governments both in Zhejiang and Fujian provinces, and scholars both from home and abroad. Thanks to the concerted efforts made by governments and scholars from home and abroad, “Traditional design and practices for building Chinese wooden arch bridges” was listed in “List of Intangible Cultural Heritage in Need of Urgent Safeguarding” by UNESCO on October 1, 2009, symbolizing the great achievement of study on Chinese lounge bridges. Meanwhile, since 2004, several seminars have been held. They are seminar 2004 in Qingyuan, Zhejiang province, seminar 2005 in Taishun, Zhejiang province, seminar 2007 in Shouning, Fujian province, and seminar 2009 in Pingnan, Fujian province, respectively. Ever since the very beginning of the research on Chinese lounge bridges, the seminars had been devoted to deepen the knowledge and widen the scope of wooden arch bridges so that this heritage can be further recognized by the world. In 2011, after 7 years from 2004, we will convene in Qingyuan, “Town of Chinese Lounge Bridges”, “the No.1 County with Best Preserved Ecological Environment”, for the 4th academic seminar. The theme is cooperation, sharing and inheritance, advancing together to apply for Cultural Heritage of the World. The journey to apply for Cultural Heritage of the World has been long and the 4th academic seminar at the end of this year is going to be another milestone, through which we hope to find the right way to apply for Cultural Heritage of the World and make the findings of this project known to the world. The Organizing Committee of the 4th Chinese Lounge Bridge International Academic Seminar (Qingyuan) decides to hold the seminar in Qingyuan, Zhejiang province, during December 1 to December 4, 2011. We now sincerely invite domestic and foreign experts and scholars to participate to make it a high-level and high-quality seminar. The following is the submission guidelines. Ⅰ. The scope of paper topics: 1. Research about Chinese wooden arch lounge bridges of Zhejiang and Fujian provinces and how to apply for Cultural Heritage of the World. 2. Research about conditions and feasibility study of applying Chinese wooden arch lounge bridges of Zhejiang and Fujian provinces for Cultural Heritage of the World. 3. Research on bringing out synergy among counties of Zhejiang and Fujian provinces to study

together. 4. Research about foundational and technical study of Chinese lounge bridges to apply for Cultural Heritage of the World. 5. Research about the enlightenment from the successful listing of “Traditional design and practices for building Chinese wooden arch bridges” on the “List of Intangible Cultural Heritage in Need of Urgent Safeguarding”. 6. Research about traditional Chinese bridge construction technique and intangible cultural heritage protection. 7. Research about lounge bridges culture and regional economic and social development 8. Research about
physical environment, humanistic connotation and exploitation of traditional bridges in China and other countries. 9. Research about
art theory, architecture, architectural history and folklore of Chinese lounge bridges. 10. Research about the relationships between traditional Chinese bridges with dwellings and village environment. 11. Research about the relationship of history, geography and social economy of traditional Chinese bridges. 12. Research about preservation theories, policies and the technology of traditional Chinese bridges. Ⅱ. Requirements on abstract submission: 1. Text: Abstract should not exceed 300 words, in English or Chinese. Chinese authors should submit both Chinese and English abstract, marking papers belong to which projects as well. Participant method: the organizing committee will transfer the abstracts to the academic committee for review once we receive them, and the invitation of attendance with the full paper will be sent out after the abstract has been accepted. Ⅲ. Requirements for full paper submission: 1. Writing requirements: The participant's paper should focus on the main themes, be with clear viewpoints and provide sufficient evidences to support the argument. All footnotes and citations need to be standardized while the paper is of values both on theoretical and practical levels. Furthermore, the paper should not be published before.
The words need to be between 6000 words while the abstract should not exceed 300 words both in Chinese and English. The introduction of the author needs to be included. Each author should not submit more than 2 articles; the name of author would remain the same once the paper is submitted. 2. Paper Interchange and publishing: The participants’ paper will be selected by the academic committee, communicated or presented on the seminar depending on circumstances, and then we will be selected and published together. 3. Relevant statement: the participants’ paper should possess the copyright completely, the academic committee possesses the right of presenting in public.(including the right of publish in English and Chinese) 4. Characters and the way of submission is the same as the requirements of Submission of the abstract 5. Paper submission deadline: September 30, 2011 Ⅳ. Relevant requirements for participants: Participants should check in with invitation card, board and lodging during the conference will be taken care of by the committee; travelling expenses should be covered by participants.
